Dr. Katarzyna Koziorowska

Dr. Katarzyna Koziorowska, together with Dr. Agnieszka Jędruch, is the co-head of the International Baltic Earth Secretariat on behalf of the Institute of Oceanology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IO PAN). She is a marine biogeochemist whose the main research focus on organic matter cycling in the marine environment and marine carbonate system, both in Arctic fjords (Spitsbergen) and the Baltic Sea. Dr. Koziorowska did her PhD the Institute of Oceanology PAN, within the Interdisciplinary Polar Studies – Centre for Polar Studies. Her doctoral research investigated the deposition, return flux, and burial rates of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in the sediments of high Arctic fjords. Afterwards, she did a postdoctoral internship at the Institute of Coastal Research, Helmholtz Center Hereon in Geesthacht, Germany, where she focused on the impact of melting Arctic glaciers on the CO2 system and seawater pH in the adjacent fjords (Spitsbergen).
