6th Baltic Earth Conference: 13 - 17 April 2026: Heringsdorf, Usedom, Germany

From 13 – 17 April 2026 the 6th Baltic Earth Conference took place in Heringsdorf, Usedom, Germany. In total, 127 participants gathered in Heringsdorf for the conference, among which were 51 Early Career Scientists. For some participants, it was the first conference which they attended so far. The participants came from 14 different countries: Germany, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Ukraine, France, Italy, China and the USA. In total, 64 talks were given and 55 posters were presented. Since there were no parallel sessions during the conference, the participants could attend all talks. Furthermore, five keynote speakers presented their work and research areas. Shortly before the conference, the Baltic Earth Science Steering Group (BESSG) and Baltic Earth Senior Advisory Board (BESAB) members had already met on the 12th of April at the conference venue in Heringsdorf for their 25th BESSG/BESAB Meeting.

Besides the scientific programme, the participants attended a performance by the Shanty Choir Usedom during the Icebreaker event, a guided excursion about the history of Heringsdorf, an Early Career Scientist event and the conference dinner.

On the last day of the conference, the two best oral and poster presentations by Early Career Scientists were awarded. The presentation recognitions for delivering outstanding oral presentations were received by Lev Naumov (IOW, Germany) and Jean-Pierre Imbrogiano (University of Jyväskylä, Finland) and the best poster awards for delivering the best poster presentations were received by Martin Mohrmann (Ocean Knowledge, Voice of the Ocean Foundation, Sweden) and Katriin Käärik (Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia).

We are looking foward to seeing you at the next Baltic Earth Conference in 2028!
