Thanks to all presenters and participants for an inspiring afternoon!

The @BalticEarth session at EGU2021 #vEGU21 on “Climate change and other drivers of environmental change: Developments, interlinkages and impacts in regional seas and coastal regions” featured contributions from marginal seas and coastal regions around the world: the Baltic and North Seas, the NE Atlantic, the Barents and Kara Seas, the Arabian Sea, the Persian and Gulf of Bengal, the western Caribbean, Gulf of Biscay, Mediterranean, and South East Asian coastal seas. 22 engaged scientists came together to discuss a wide range of topics, spanning from regional climate change, its modelling, adaptation and perceptions, sea level, sea ice conditions and coastal processes, marine heatwaves, nutrient transport, contaminants, to fisheries resources, aquaculture, urban heat distributions and paleoenvironments. All these topics have a strong relation to human activities and modifications of coasts, processes and attitudes. The vivid session reviewed some of these aspects, using the presented case studies from all around the world.

The session was strongly related to the Baltic Earth Assessment Reports (BEAR), which assess different issues of Earth system changes in the Baltic Sea region, and which have a high relevance for other marginal seas and coastal areas worldwide.
